Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have engaged in talks with former sporting director Michael Edwards to convince him to return and shape the post-Jurgen Klopp era. The discussions took place in Boston involving FSG principal owner John W Henry and president Mike Gordon.

Edwards currently a consultant at Ludonautics is considered the ideal candidate by FSG to lead Liverpool’s transition after Klopp’s departure this summer. While Edwards has rejected previous approaches, FSG is eager to offer him a substantial role potentially as head of football operations.

Edwards would oversee recruitment, analytics and play a key role in appointing a new sporting director and manager with Xabi Alonso being a front-runner for the latter position. FSG efforts to rehire Edwards reflect their belief in his ability to shape Liverpool’s future.

The club is also considering Ruben Amorim for the manager’s role respecting Alonso’s current commitments with Bayer Leverkusen.
