Gabby Agbonlahor Labels Nemanja Vidic 'Most Over-Rated' Defender in Premier League History
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has criticized Manchester United legends Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville. The 37-year-old, who spent his entire career at Villa, expressed his opinions during a talkSPORT interview, where he selected Rio Ferdinand and John Terry as the best defenders in Premier League history but labeled Vidic as the ‘most over-rated’ center back.
Agbonlahor stated, “I’ve said it before, I didn’t find Vidic hard to play against. Whenever he came tight, I’d spin in behind him. I could hold the ball up against him. Other players might say different, but that’s my opinion.” Vidic enjoyed a successful tenure at Old Trafford from 2006 to 2014, winning 15 trophies, including five Premier League titles.
His comments sparked reactions from United fans and Gary Neville. Responding to Agbonlahor’s opinion, Neville reposted a tweet from a United fan account, highlighting that Agbonlahor had played against Manchester United 22 times in his career, winning only once.
Agbonlahor’s criticism extended to an Instagram post by Sky Sports showing Neville taking a penalty in 2016. Agbonlahor commented, stating, “Poor player on his day. Just lucky to be at a great club.” Neville, a one-club man with over 600 appearances for Manchester United from 1992 to 2011, also represented England with 85 caps. Agbonlahor had previously excluded Vidic from his all-time Premier League XI in November, asserting that Vidic “wasn’t all that.”
