Hewett and Reid Make History with Fifth Consecutive Australian Open Wheelchair Men’s Doubles Title

Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid secured their fifth consecutive Australian Open wheelchair men’s doubles title with a straight sets victory over Japanese duo Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda. The British pair playing their semi-final earlier in the day clinched their 19th Grand Slam title together by defeating Miki and Oda 6-3, 6-2 in the final on the Kia Arena. Hewett extended his overall major title count to 27 with a singles final against Oda scheduled for Sunday.

Reid claimed his 25th Slam title, the sixth in Melbourne and his 100th combined doubles title in juniors and pros. The duo won the final without dropping a set, capping an impressive day with victories in both the semi-final and final. They maintained their dominance breaking their opponents in crucial moments and securing the title in an hour and 17 minutes. This marks their second major final win against the Japanese team having defeated them at Wimbledon last year.
