Mercedes junior driver Doriane Pin has set an impressive benchmark in F1 Academy qualifying finishing seven tenths ahead of any other competitor. The F1 Academy series running alongside F1 commenced with Pin establishing herself as an early title contender.

Mercedes chose the 20 years old Frenchwoman for the season and she secured pole position in Jeddah outpacing Abbi Pulling from Alpine by 0.7 seconds. Ferrari’s Maya Weug claimed third place trailing leader Pin by a second. Team boss Toto Wolff praised Pin as an “exciting talent” and expressed anticipation for her career progression.

In F2 another Mercedes prospect Kimi Antonelli secured a sixth place finish in qualifying with teammate Oliver Bearman taking pole. Both Mercedes juniors are set to compete on Friday in the F1 Academy race and the F2 sprint race.
