Injury Woes for Indiana as Star Guard Bennedict Mathurin Set for Season-Ending Surgery
Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn right labrum dealing a significant blow to the NBA top-rated offensive team’s bench. The surgery scheduled with Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles is expected to enable Mathurin to make a full recovery for the 2024-25 season.
The 21 years old a 2023 All-Rookie first-team selection had been performing well averaging 19 points with a 41.4% shooting from 3 points range in his last five games. Mathurin the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft was a key player for the Pacers averaging 14.5 points and leading one of the league’s best bench units.
He was also named MVP of the 2024 Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend. In his rookie season, Mathurin averaged 16.7 points. The Pacers currently 35-29 hold the eighth position in the Eastern Conference.
