Jasmine Paolini staged a remarkable comeback in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships overcoming Anna Kalinskaya in a thrilling final. Despite initially trailing, Paolini secured a hard-fought victory with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 scoreline. Kalinskaya in good form had recently defeated the World No 1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.
The match saw both players breaking each other’s serves with Kalinskaya taking the first set. Paolini battled back in the second set capitalizing on Kalinskaya’s unforced errors and securing a crucial break to claim the set. In the deciding set, Kalinskaya initially took the lead but struggled to maintain it.
Despite serving for the championship she faltered allowing Paolini to break back and eventually secure the title. Paolini expressed surprise and happiness at her comeback acknowledging the tough match and praising her opponent’s performance.
