Joe Joyce returned to the ring on Saturday with a victory over Kash Ali in their British heavyweight clash in Birmingham. Joyce aimed to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Zhilei Zhang in 2023 which cost him the WBO interim title and slowed his path to a world title shot.
Despite a sluggish performance, Joyce delivered a decisive blow in the seventh round knocking Ali down with a powerful right jab. Ali hampered by injuries and a previous suspension for biting was counted out in the final round. The win brings Joyce’s record to 16-2 and reignites his pursuit of top contenders in the heavyweight division.
In other bouts, Liam Davies claimed the IBO super-bantamweight world title while Nathan Heaney retained the British middleweight title with a draw against Brad Pauls.
