Ken Owens Retires: Wales' Rugby Legend Bids Farewell

Wales’ most capped hooker and oldest captain, Ken Owens has announced his retirement from professional rugby at the age of 37. Owens who played 91 times for Wales and five Tests for the British and Irish Lions cited a persistent back injury as the reason for his decision. He expressed gratitude for his career, which included winning four Six Nations titles and two Grand Slams with Wales as well as representing the Lions on two tours.

Owens known as the “Sheriff of Carmarthen,” spent his entire professional career with Scarlets captaining the club for seven years and winning the Pro12 league title in 2017. Tributes poured in for Owens from figures like Wales head coach Warren Gatland and Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel highlighting his leadership qualities and contributions to Welsh rugby.
