In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 123-113 loss to the Phoenix Suns, LeBron James expressed amusement when asked about the significant free throw disparity. Phoenix attempted 19 free throws compared to the Lakers’ eight marking a season low and tying the fewest attempts since James joined the team in 2018.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham was frustrated citing inconsistency in referees’ decisions. The Lakers usually averaging 24.7 free throws per game emphasized winning the free throw line but struggled due to the perceived lack of calls. This marked the first time since December 2015 that one of James’ teams had zero free throw attempts in a half.

Despite concerns about officiating, the Lakers acknowledged their defensive lapses contributed to the loss.
