Lewis Hamilton Optimistic After Mercedes' Strong Performance in Suzuka Practice
Lewis Hamilton praised Mercedes’ performance in Friday’s Japanese Grand Prix practice deeming it their best session of the year. Despite Hamilton and teammate George Russell finishing fifth and fourth respectively just under half a second behind Max Verstappen, Hamilton expressed contentment with the car performance. Wet conditions in the second session were inconsequential.
Mercedes anticipated challenges at Suzuka due to the track demanding layout which exposes the car limitations in high-speed corners. However, Hamilton highlighted positive improvements in handling, particularly given recent struggles. Meanwhile, Verstappen led followed closely by Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez as Ferrari Carlos Sainz remained optimistic about the team’s progress.
Williams faced setbacks as Logan Sargeant heavy crash caused significant damage. McLaren Oscar Piastri led the second session with few drivers completing flying laps due to mixed weather conditions. Additionally, Formula 2 driver Ayumu Iwasa impressed during a run-out for Red Bull showcasing his talent on home turf.
