Liel Abada has finalized his move to Major League Soccer club Charlotte expressing that departing from Celtic was not part of his plans. The 22 years old Israeli winger completed the transfer for a reported £8m fee and has signed a contract until 2026. Despite Brendan Rodgers stating that Abada was not ready to play due to the conflict in Gaza, Abada faced pressure from compatriots to leave Celtic amidst fans’ support for the Palestinian cause.

Having sat out the Scottish champions’ recent five games, Abada acknowledged the personal challenges of the past six months and thanked the support from the coaching staff and the board. Abada who joined Celtic in July 2021 was a key player under Ange Postecoglou contributing significantly to their domestic success.

Despite signing a four years deal last summer injuries disrupted his campaign and he expressed gratitude to everyone at Celtic and the Glasgow-based Israeli community. Now embarking on a new chapter, Abada joins Charlotte aiming to contribute to their success in the MLS under the guidance of general manager Zoran Krnet.
