Liverpool Eyes Michael Edwards Return Amid Sporting Director Vacancy

Liverpool is open to the idea of rehiring former sporting director Michael Edwards considering the current absence of a sporting director since Jorg Schmadtke’s departure in January. The club’s owners Fenway Sports Group highly value Edwards who served as sporting director from 2016 to summer 2022.

Although Edwards turned down a previous approach to return, the club remains interested in bringing him back. Edwards credited for signing key players like Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah is currently working as a consultant for Ludonautics a sports advisory business.

The urgency for a sporting director is emphasized by the approaching contract expirations of key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah in the summer of 2025.
