Liverpool Eyes Xabi Alonso as Jurgen Klopp Successor

Liverpool is increasingly confident about securing Xabi Alonso as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, with reports indicating that Bayer Leverkusen is targeting Julen Lopetegui as Alonso’s replacement.

Klopp’s impending departure from Liverpool has prompted the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, to seek a capable successor who can maintain the progress made under Klopp’s tenure. Alonso, a beloved figure among Liverpool fans due to his successful stint as a player, is currently leading the race for the managerial role. His impressive track record at Leverkusen, where the team remains unbeaten in the Bundesliga, further strengthens his candidacy.

While Leverkusen hopes to retain Alonso, they are aware of the interest from top European clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. Consequently, Leverkusen is reportedly considering Lopetegui as a replacement. Lopetegui, who has been without a club since departing Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been linked with a return to the Premier League, but Leverkusen’s pursuit could sway his decision.

As Leverkusen prepares for Alonso’s potential departure, Liverpool sees an opportunity to secure the services of their former player and further solidify their managerial succession plan.
