Manchester United’s striker, Anthony Martial is set to be out of action for approximately 10 weeks after undergoing “successful” groin surgery, as confirmed by the club. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since the 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth on December 9, 2023. This injury will keep Martial out of play until April, coinciding with the expiration of his contract with the club in the summer. United expressed their well-wishes for a speedy recovery in a statement.
Martial missed games due to illness and subsequently identified groin issues, has not played in the team’s last seven matches across all competitions. Having scored just once in the Premier League this season, Martial’s recent form contrasts with his earlier contributions as he played in only 28 of United’s 62 matches in the previous season. Martial originally joined United from Monaco in 2015 for £36m but experienced a dip in form leading to a loan spell at Sevilla during the 2021-22 season.
