During a dramatic 4-4 draw against Newcastle United, Luton Town striker Carlton Morris faced a challenging moment when he had to take a penalty twice due to confusion. The incident occurred when Luton wingback Chiedozie Ogbene was fouled in the box initially unnoticed by the referee. A VAR check revealed the infringement leading to a penalty for Luton.
Morris with a perfect penalty record, initially took the kick believing the referee had blown the whistle. However, it turned out the referee was dealing with other issues on the field and Morris had to retake the penalty. Despite the added pressure, Morris maintained his composure scoring in the same spot to give Luton a 3-2 lead.
The striker attributed the confusion to the noise from the crowd but managed to regain his composure. Luton boss Rob Edwards expressed concern initially but praised Morris for his quality and calmness in converting the retaken penalty.
Additionally, Edwards commended Ogbene for his outstanding performance throughout the game emphasizing his defensive and attacking contributions. Ogbene was a constant threat winning the crucial penalty and almost scoring a winner in stoppage time.
