Maggie Alphonsi Urges Action: Women’s Six Nations Integrity at Risk Amid England Dominance

Former England flanker Maggie Alphonsi expressed frustration over England’s dominant 46-0 away win against Scotland in the Women’s Six Nations citing concerns about the competition’s integrity. Despite playing with 14 players for nearly half an hour, England controlled the game completely. Alphonsi emphasized the need to support other nations to narrow the gap in quality. England dominance is reflected in their consecutive titles since 2019 and their unbeaten streak of 27 matches in the Six Nations.

Scotland hasn’t defeated England since 1999 and the last team other than England to win the tournament was France in 2018. Alphonsi highlighted the importance of reducing the gap between teams and fostering closer competition. Scotland recent improvement including professional contracts, indicates progress but there’s still work to be done. Injured Scotland player Jade Konkel acknowledged the time needed for development to catch up with England level.

Former England hooker Brian Moore stated that England must focus on their own standards and development suggesting it’s not their responsibility to close the gap between teams.
