Maidstone United pulled off a stunning upset in the FA Cup defeating Championship team Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Goals from Lamar Reynolds and Sam Corne secured the historic win for Maidstone, who are the first sixth-tier team to reach the Fifth Round since 1978. Goalkeeper Lucas Covolan made several incredible saves to thwart Ipswich’s attacks with the team celebrating wildly at the final whistle.
Manager George Elokobi had urged his players to enjoy the occasion before the game. Despite Ipswich’s relentless pressure, Maidstone held firm with Covolan making crucial saves. Reynolds and Corne capitalized on counterattacks to score sealing Maidstone’s victory. Ipswich’s attempts to equalize were in vain as Maidstone held on for the win advancing to the last 16 of the FA Cup.
