Malaysia aims to send approximately 20 athletes to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics scheduled from July 26 to August 11 marking the smallest contingent in 36 years. Chef de mission Hamidin Amin expressed confidence in achieving this target citing available qualification slots in various sports such as swimming, weightlifting, badminton and more.
The current qualified athletes include Bertrand Rhodict Lises, Nur Shazrin Latif, Johnathan Wong, Ariana Nur Dania Zairi and Nur Aisyah Zubir. Despite the absence of diving queens Pandelela Rinong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri, Hamidin believes Malaysia’s best medal prospects lie with Azizulhasni Awang in cycling and the men’s badminton doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
