Despite playing at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Malaysia couldn’t secure a win against Oman in the Group D 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup second round qualifying match. They lost 0-2, similar to their previous match against Oman in Muscat. This defeat makes their path to the 2027 Asian Cup and qualifying for the third round of the 2026 World Cup more challenging.

Malaysia starting lineup included Muhammad Azam Azmi Murad, Mohamed Syamer Kutty Abba and Darren Lok with Pan Gon making three changes to the team. Oman maintained nearly the same starting lineup, with striker Jameel Al Yahmadi being the only change. Despite Malaysia early chance to take the lead, Oman capitalized on Ahmad Syihan mistake, scoring their first goal before securing a second in injury time.

Malaysia loss keeps them in third place in Group D with Kyrgyzstan leading and Oman in second place. Their next match is against Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek on June 6, followed by a fixture against Taiwan at Bukit Jalil on June 11.
