Manchester City has completed the signing of Claudio Echeverri, an Argentina Under-17 midfielder from River Plate. The transfer fee for Echeverri is reported to be around £12.5m and he has inked a four-and-a-half-year contract that extends until 2028.
At just 18 years old, Echeverri has already made six appearances for River Plate’s first team will continue with the Argentine club throughout 2024. This signing follows a similar deal City struck with River for Argentina forward Julian Alvarez back in January 2022.
Echeverri notably captained Argentina’s U17 team at the World Cup in November, where he showcased his talent by scoring a hat-trick in their 3-0 victory over Brazil in the quarter-finals. He ended the tournament with five goals as Argentina finished fourth after losing in the third-place play-off.
