Manchester United Appoints Omar Berrada as Chief Executive, Luring Him from City Football Group

Omar Berrada has been appointed as the chief executive of Manchester United after resigning from his position as chief football operations officer at City Football Group. Berrada, who gained significant acclaim at Manchester City, initially serving as the club’s commercial director and later becoming chief operating officer, is now tasked with contributing to Manchester United’s goal of re-establishing themselves as a title-winning club.

The Old Trafford club expressed their ambition to prioritize football and on-pitch performance, placing Omar’s appointment as the first step in this transformative journey. This move comes as Manchester United sought a replacement for Richard Arnold, who stepped down from the chief executive role in November.

Initially, Jean Claude Blanc was considered for the position, but it is Omar Berrada’s extensive experience in football operations that has secured him the role. Patrick Stewart, United’s head of legal, has been serving in an interim capacity since Arnold’s departure.

City Football Group acknowledged Berrada’s resignation, expressing understanding for his decision and extending thanks and best wishes. Berrada is expected to assume his new role at Manchester United in the summer, with his exit from City being described as amicable.

The start date for Berrada will be confirmed in due course, and Stewart will continue to serve in the interim role until then. Berrada reportedly deliberated extensively before making the move, considering the contrasting states of the two clubs.

City Football Group views United’s pursuit of one of their senior executives as a testament to their standing as one of the best-run clubs in Europe. Despite Berrada’s departure, City remains confident in the continuity of their executive team, led by chief executive Ferran Soriano.
