According to a UEFA report, Manchester United’s squad in the 2023 financial year was deemed the “most expensive ever assembled” in football costing 1.42 billion euros (£1.21 billion) in combined transfer fees. This surpassed the previous record held by the 2020 Real Madrid squad at £1.13 billion.

Notable players contributing to the high cost include Antony (£82 million), Harry Maguire (£80 million), Jadon Sancho (£73 million) and Casemiro (£70 million). The report also mentions that Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid had squads costing over £1 billion in transfer fees.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a 25% stake in Manchester United was recently approved by the Football Association valued at around £1.03 billion.
