Manchester United is reportedly eyeing Dan Ashworth for the role of sporting director even though he currently holds the same position at Newcastle. Talks about the potential move are expected to progress quickly but no formal approach has been made yet. Ashworth known for his recruitment skills previously worked at Brighton and is highly regarded.

However, negotiations may be complicated due to his existing contract with Newcastle. INEOS led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe is working on significant changes at Old Trafford with Ashworth seen as a valuable addition for his 24 years of experience. His potential role at United would involve hands on involvement in player recruitment.

While Newcastle is confident of retaining Ashworth, the transformation at United driven by Ratcliffe’s data-led approach continues with the pursuit of a sporting director. The club aims to prioritize younger players in the market and reduce Erik ten Hag’s influence over transfers.

United’s current board lacks a sporting director and the anticipated restructuring includes the departure of football director John Murtough. Ratcliffe and INEOS are actively engaging with players, staff and the wider club workforce as they embark on reshaping football operations at United.
