Manchester United's Raphael Varane potentially incurs the displeasure of Erik ten Hag with a winter break snapshot.
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane may need to issue an apology to Erik ten Hag following indications of an unauthorized skiing trip during the squad’s holiday break. While some members of the team dispersed to various destinations, Varane shared a photo on his Instagram story from what appeared to be a ski resort, featuring skiing activities in the background – an activity banned by Man United officials due to injury concerns.
Despite a representative confirming that Varane did not partake in the extreme sport, he could still face inquiries from Erik ten Hag upon his return to Old Trafford. This potential conversation adds to a series of challenges Varane has encountered since joining Manchester United for £42 million in 2021.
The French defender faced fitness struggles in his debut campaign, and although he made more appearances last season, injuries continued to sideline him. This season, Varane has participated in only 18 matches across all competitions, starting in 13 of them. Despite the setbacks, he has returned to the starting lineup in the last three Premier League games.
With Varane’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Erik ten Hag has expressed a desire to extend his stay, acknowledging ongoing discussions with Varane and Anthony Martial. The Dutch manager has also denied rumors of a strained relationship with Varane, emphasizing the importance of internal competition in a top club.
Real Madrid, Varane’s former club, had been linked with a move for him following a long-term injury to David Alaba. However, manager Carlo Ancelotti refuted claims that Real Madrid was actively seeking to re-sign Varane.
