Tyrell Malacia the Dutch left-back signed by Manchester United is unlikely to feature until next season due to a knee meniscus injury. Both Malacia and first-choice left-back Luke Shaw have faced significant spells on the sidelines this season leaving manager Erik ten Hag with limited options in that position. Malacia has not played a single minute this season with his last action being for the Netherlands in June.

Reports suggest that Malacia underwent surgery against United advice last summer opting for his own choice of surgeon in the Netherlands. Although United accepted his request, scans later revealed remnants of cartilage around the meniscus leading to a second operation overseen by the club in November. Despite expectations of a January return, Malacia has yet to come back leaving United to rely on makeshift left-backs.

Questions have arisen regarding Malacia rehabilitation process and lack of communication with the club as well as his absence from social media since last summer. With United season in jeopardy, Erik ten Hag is under pressure to secure results and qualify for the Champions League with the FA Cup representing their only hope for silverware.
