England fast bowler Mark Wood believes that England’s remarkable win in the first Test against India in Hyderabad has put pressure on the hosts to rethink their strategy. Despite facing a 190-run deficit, England managed to secure a 28-run victory marking only India’s fourth home defeat in 47 Tests. Wood emphasized that this win has shown India that England is determined and prepared for a tough battle throughout the series.

The victory was largely attributed to Ollie Pope’s outstanding innings of 196 runs in the second innings and Tom Hartley’s exceptional bowling performance with 7-62 on debut. Wood expressed confidence in England’s abilities and expects a strong response from India in the second Test in Visakhapatnam. He noted that while India is a formidable team England’s victory has given them something to consider.

Despite the historic inclusion of only one specialist seamer in the first Test Wood remains uncertain about his role in the upcoming matches. England awaits the fitness of spinner Jack Leach, while India will be without Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul due to injuries. Additionally, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah received one demerit point from the International Cricket Council for obstructing Ollie Pope during the match.
