Lautaro Martinez’s late goal secured a 1-0 victory for Internazionale over 10-man Napoli in the Italian Super Cup allowing Inter to defend the trophy for the third consecutive season. The decisive moment came in the 91st minute when Martinez scored from Benjamin Pavard’s cross.
Prior to the goal, chances were limited with Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan missing opportunities for Inter. Napoli struggled failing to register a shot on target in the first half.
Napoli’s task became more challenging when Giovanni Simeone received a second yellow card in the 60th minute. Despite Napoli’s defensive efforts, Martinez’s late strike secured Inter’s eighth Super Cup title, just one shy of Juventus’ record of nine.
