India batter and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal was hospitalized in Agartala after consuming an unidentified liquid, presumed to be water on a flight to New Delhi. Agarwal experienced a burning sensation in his mouth after taking a sip from a bottle found in the front seat pocket.
Despite rinsing his mouth, the discomfort persisted prompting the flight to return to the bay for his immediate medical attention. Agarwal received treatment for oral irritation and swelling at ILS Hospital where he remains under observation.
The incident occurred as the Karnataka team was en route to Surat for their next match. Agarwal’s condition is stable but he will miss the upcoming game against Railways. Manish Pandey who missed the previous match due to injury is expected to join the team on Wednesday.
An FIR has been filed regarding the incident and investigations are ongoing to determine the contents of the liquid consumed by Agarwal. If declared fit to travel Agarwal may return to the city for further treatment.
