Mercedes Faces 2024 Catch up Challenge While Pondering Hamilton’s Replacement

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has acknowledged receiving messages from Formula 1 drivers expressing interest in the seat that Lewis Hamilton will vacate as he moves to Ferrari after the current season. Wolff stated that they are exploring various options for Hamilton’s replacement ranging from young talents to experienced drivers.

Carlos Sainz who will lose his Ferrari spot to Hamilton is among the contenders. Wolff emphasized the need to take their time in evaluating potential candidates and mentioned the full spectrum of possibilities. While facing the challenge of catching up to Red Bull in the 2024 season, Wolff discussed the decision making process and the contractual clause that allowed Hamilton to join Ferrari in 2025.

Despite the surprise in timing, Wolff explained that they anticipated a potential change and are committed to giving their best in the remaining year with Hamilton.
