Napoli has dismissed manager Walter Mazzarri after a brief three months tenure appointing Slovakia’s coach Francesco Calzona as his replacement. Mazzarri took over in November but leaves with Napoli in the ninth position in Serie A. Calzona with prior experience as Napoli’s assistant manager will concurrently lead Slovakia at Euro 2024.
His contract with Napoli is until the season’s end and he also holds an existing deal with Slovakia until 2025. The decision considered non-standard by the Slovak Football Association aims to support Calzona in a challenging situation at Napoli.
Napoli’s owner thanked Mazzarri for his contributions and the team faces Barcelona in the Champions League last-16 tie.
