Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert has been fined $100,000 by the NBA for making an inappropriate gesture towards an official and publicly criticizing the officiating in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Gobert received a technical foul for making a money gesture after being called for his sixth foul in the closing seconds of the game.
The Timberwolves were leading at the time but ended up losing in overtime. Gobert in post-game comments expressed concerns about gambling influencing NBA officiating stating that it’s hurting the game. While admitting his immature reaction, he emphasized his belief in the larger issue.
This incident follows similar gestures made by other players resulting in fines.
