Ng Tze Yong Races Against Time for Paris Olympics Amid Injury Recovery
Men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong is in a race against time to salvage his Paris Olympics aspirations. Currently recovering from back surgery for a spinal issue, Tze Yong aims to regain full fitness for the Asian Championships, the last Olympic qualifying event from April 9-14. Sitting at 17th in the Race to Paris rankings, he must overcome his injury challenges and perform well in the Asian meet to secure an Olympic spot.
National coaching director Rexy Mainaky acknowledges the tough task ahead for Tze Yong and emphasizes the importance of his confidence in his body for a successful return. If unable to make a comeback for the Asian meet, Tze Yong will focus on regaining fitness for the Thomas Cup Finals from April 27-May 5. Rexy faces selection challenges for the team event due to fitness concerns with players like Lee Zii Jia and Justin Hoh.
Despite the uncertainties, Malaysia aims for a strong showing in the Thomas Cup against Denmark, Hong Kong and Algeria in Group D.
