Nottingham Forest Contemplate Action Over Refereeing Controversy
Nottingham Forest expressed strong dissatisfaction with refereeing decisions following their 2-0 defeat at Everton stating they are “considering their options” regarding the “extremely poor” officiating. They criticized the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) for not addressing concerns about the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Although they did not name the official, Stuart Attwell was the video assistant referee.
Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo echoed the club’s frustration with the referees’ performance, citing multiple instances of perceived poor decisions. The Football Association is investigating the matter. Forest grievances stemmed from three penalty claims involving Everton’s Ashley Young. Forest had previously lodged complaints about refereeing decisions in past matches.
Mark Clattenburg, Forest referee analyst and retired referee had criticized officiating earlier in the season. The statement from Forest has raised concerns within the football governing bodies.
