Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has reportedly had a heated dispute with the Cameroon hierarchy after learning he was dropped for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations match against Gambia. Onana joined United for £47 million in the summer has struggled to fill the shoes of club legend David de Gea. His errors in Champions League games contributed to United’s early elimination. Despite hopes that participating in AFCON would improve his form, Onana missed Cameroon’s first match to play for United in the Premier League.

He was benched for the second AFCON game against Gambia, leading to a reported argument with Samuel Eto’o the president of the Cameroon FA. Onana’s cousin, Fabrice Ondoa took his place in the starting XI and Cameroon won securing a spot in the last 16. United had previously agreed to keep Onana in England longer than other African players by paying £79,000 for a private jet to fly him to the competition. United’s manager, Erik ten Hag is expected to give debutant Altay Bayindir a chance in the FA Cup against Newport County, signaling a change in Onana’s continuous play since joining the team.
