Pedro Acosta Secures First Podium as Jorge Martin Takes MotoGP Victory
Spaniard Jorge Martin secured victory in the second MotoGP race of the season in Portugal, leading from start to finish. The 26 years old finished ahead of Italy’s Enea Bastianini with 19 years old Pedro Acosta claiming his first podium in just his second race. World champion Francesco Bagnaia and six-time champion Marc Marquez collided three laps from the end.
Maverick Vinales, clinching his first MotoGP win for Aprilia in Saturday’s sprint race, crashed out while in second place on the final lap on Sunday. Bastianini and Acosta capitalized on Vinales’ misfortune as Martin led all 25 laps to claim victory. Bagnaia, who won the season opener in Qatar, saw his race end prematurely due to the collision with Marquez.
Despite Marquez continuing to finish 16th, Bagnaia was forced to retire. With this win, Martin leads the championship standings by 18 points, followed by Brad Binder and Bastianini.
