PGA Tour Loyalty: McIlroy Squashes Speculation of Joining LIV Golf
Rory McIlroy has definitively rejected the idea of leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf emphasizing his commitment to the PGA Tour’s rich history and prestige. Despite earlier hints at the possibility the four times major champion now firmly asserts his position as a traditionalist who values the legacy of golf tournaments and the names engraved on trophies.
McIlroy’s statement comes after his recent press conference and clarifies his stance against joining the Saudi-backed breakaway league. While he wishes for top players to compete more frequently across tours, McIlroy dismisses the notion of making a sensational switch to LIV Golf. He advocates for collaboration among players to enhance cohesiveness between the PGA Tour and LIV.
Previously, McIlroy suggested leniency for players returning to the PGA Tour from LIV and proposed a tournament series inspired by football’s Champions League.
