The Premier League has acknowledged the need for improvements to VAR citing issues with lengthy checks and a subpar stadium experience for supporters. Tony Scholes the chief football officer emphasized that while VAR is effective in supporting match officials there is room for enhancement.

One concern is the time taken for reviews which disrupts the flow of the game. Additionally the in-stadium experience for fans is deemed inadequate. The league is exploring options such as playing audio footage between VARs and referees but implementation is uncertain due to constraints from Ifab.

Scholes noted that while the average time for VAR checks has increased this season specific figures were not provided. The introduction of semi-automated offside technology is being considered but challenges remain in handling complex scenarios.
