Questions Arise Over Mason Mount's Transfer to Manchester United: Was It More Than Football?
Mason Mount’s transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea last summer for £60 million hasn’t gone as planned with reports suggesting that the deal was not solely based on football reasons. Despite interest from other clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, Mount chose United and signed a lucrative five years contract.
However, injuries have limited his playing time to just 12 appearances in all competitions. A source close to a United player claims that the motive behind the transfer wasn’t purely football-related. Mount who spent 18 years at Chelsea including youth development admitted it was tough leaving his boyhood club.
He has faced backlash from some Chelsea fans but others including John Terry have urged understanding. Mount returned to training after a calf injury and is expected to be fit for United’s upcoming match against Chelsea. Erik ten Hag, United’s manager has expressed optimism about Mount’s return.
The hope is that Mount can fulfill the vision Ten Hag had for him and contribute significantly to United’s season.
