Emma Raducanu cruised through the first round at Indian Wells with a straight-sets victory over Rebeka Masarova. The 21 years old granted a wild card secured a 6-2, 6-3 win in an hour and 45 minutes setting up a meeting with Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska.
Raducanu expressed the importance of overcoming challenging conditions at the tournament and her joy in playing in America. Tim Henman acknowledged Raducanu’s efforts noting her focus on improving serve pace and angles. Raducanu will face Yastremska in the next round.
Meanwhile, British No. 2 Dan Evans suffered a first round exit due to a shoulder problem losing to Roman Safiullin in three sets. Lorenzo Sonego and Andy Murray set to face Andrey Rublev are among other players featured in Friday’s matches at Indian Wells.
