Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Indian Wells tournament on the eve of his first round match citing that he is “not ready to play at the highest level.” The 37 years old Spaniard who returned to competition in January after a hip flexor injury had to skip the Australian Open due to another muscle tear.
Despite losing to Carlos Alcaraz in an exhibition event in Las Vegas, Nadal aimed for a fourth title in California but withdrew before facing Milos Raonic. Expressing sadness, Nadal emphasized his love for the tournament and acknowledged the tough decision. Lucky loser Sumit Nagal will replace Nadal in the main draw.
