Rafael Nadal has clarified why he doesn’t consider Roger Federer a friend despite their mutual respect and iconic rivalry. Federer retired in September 2022 and although Nadal and Djokovic have surpassed his Grand Slam titles the rivalry remains significant. Nadal in an interview expressed admiration for Federer but stated they aren’t close friends considering him more as someone familiar with a great relationship.
He credited their shared career, battles, and mutual growth highlighting the intense competition that pushed them to their limits. Despite the fierce rivalry, Nadal acknowledged the significant impact they had on each other. In their head-to-head record, Nadal holds the edge with 24 wins in 40 matches and triumphs in 10 of their 14 Grand Slam meetings.
The 2008 Wimbledon final lasting a record breaking 4 hours and 48 minutes remains one of their most famous clashes ending with Nadal’s victory.
