A petition to prevent Wycombe Wanderers from acquiring Reading’s Bearwood Park Training Ground has garnered nearly 5,000 signatures. The deal reportedly set at half the price Reading paid in 2019 has sparked outrage among fans and pundits who accuse owner Dai Yongge of stripping the club’s assets to settle debts. Despite confirmation of discussions between the clubs, fans are staging protests and signing petitions to halt the transaction.
Reading’s Chief Executive, Dayong Pang stated the deal would support short-term funding until a full sale could be arranged. Organized by fan Luke Tomlin, the petition calls for Yongge’s expulsion from ownership and a sale to a trustworthy owner. Anti-Wycombe banners have also been displayed expressing opposition to the deal. Wycombe’s next match is against Northampton Town while Reading faces Cambridge United both on March 16.
