Singapore most celebrated athlete, Joseph Schooling, has announced his retirement from swimming at the age of 28, eight years after his historic gold medal win at the Rio Olympics. Schooling plans to transition into golf and venture capital, focusing on health, wellness, tech and sustainability.
Reflecting on his career, he expressed gratitude to his parents, coaches and support team acknowledging their role in his success. Despite setbacks, including a cannabis consumption scandal in 2022 and a decline in performance post-Rio, Schooling remains a six-time Sportsman of the Year.
He attributes his success to his supportive environment at The Bolles School and the University of Texas. Schooling journey has inspired many, especially those facing challenges like scoliosis proving that with determination anyone can achieve their dreams.
His legacy as Singapore first and only Olympic champion continues to motivate aspiring athletes worldwide.
