Former Manchester City and Real Madrid forward Robinho aged 40 has been ordered by a court in Brazil to serve a nine years prison sentence for his involvement in the 2013 gang rape of a 22 years old Albanian woman. Although initially found guilty by an Italian court in 2017, Robinho has been living in Brazil which does not extradite its citizens.

The decision to enforce his sentence in Brazil follows a request from Italy. Robinho who holds 100 caps for Brazil was playing for AC Milan at the time of the crime. He has asserted that the sexual encounter was consensual. Despite losing appeals and facing an international arrest warrant issued by Italian prosecutors, he remains free pending a potential appeal against the Brazilian court’s ruling.

Robinho had notable stints with Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan among other clubs throughout his career.
