Ronnie O’Sullivan mounted a remarkable comeback, overturning a 4-0 deficit to secure a 10-7 victory over Judd Trump in the World Grand Prix final. While Trump dominated the initial session with a 4-0 lead, O’Sullivan bounced back, concluding the afternoon session 5-3 down.
Despite falling 6-3 behind, O’Sullivan staged a brilliant recovery, winning six consecutive frames. Trump’s errors, including a missed black in frame 14 and a brown in the following frame, contributed to O’Sullivan’s resurgence. Ultimately, O’Sullivan secured victory in the 17th frame to clinch the title in Leicester.
Expressing his enjoyment of the match, O’Sullivan credited improved well-being during the week, attributing it to a shift in dietary habits. Reflecting on his performance, O’Sullivan mentioned his exceptional snooker against Ding Junhui in the semi-final.
The victory earned O’Sullivan £100,000 and marked his 41st ranking title. Despite Trump’s initial strong start, O’Sullivan praised his opponent as a formidable competitor and considered him the favorite for the upcoming World Championship.
Recalling the Masters final, where he also rallied from a 6-3 deficit, O’Sullivan highlighted his wealth of experience and continuous improvement as a player. He acknowledged having learned a lot about the game, attributing his success to becoming a more well-rounded player over the years.
