Rory McIlroy responded to Talor Gooch’s criticism of potential asterisks on McIlroy’s Grand Slam if he wins The Masters giving Gooch the “benefit of the doubt” and suggesting the interviewer led him into the comment. McIlroy pointed out that Joaquin Niemann’s Masters invite was based on form implying Gooch hasn’t shown similar form.

Rocco Mediate criticized Gooch’s remarks calling it embarrassing and emphasizing that LIV Golf’s top players will be at Augusta. Gooch had criticized the lack of major exemptions for LIV Golf players with his own ranking dropping despite winning on the LIV Golf League which doesn’t offer world ranking points.
