Rugby star Kurtley Beale is facing trial in a New South Wales district court on charges of sexual intercourse without consent and sexual touching stemming from an alleged incident at a Sydney pub in December 2022. Beale pleaded not guilty asserting that the interaction was consensual. In a secretly recorded phone call with the accuser, Beale expressed apologies admitting he “misread the situation” and was “super pissed” but claimed he thought she was interested.

The accuser described Beale touching her inappropriately and forcing oral sex. Beale’s defense argues that there was no force involved and that the encounter was consensual. Beale expressed concern about the incident becoming public and potentially damaging his reputation during the call. The trial continues with the defense urging the jury to consider the accuser’s honesty and reliability.
