Sam Szmodics missed out on winning the Championship Player of the Season award but was named in the Team of the Season at the EFL awards ceremony on Sunday night. Despite scoring an impressive 24 goals this season, he lost out to Crysencio Summerville and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the top individual honor.
However, Szmodics’ inclusion in the Team of the Season was deemed well-deserved recognizing his remarkable campaign. Leeds winger Summerville praised Szmodics as a “killer” and acknowledged Dewsbury-Hall excellence in midfield.
The full Championship Team of the Season also included players from various clubs with Blackburn Rovers being awarded the ‘Fan Engagement Award’ for their initiative during Christmas. They collaborated with several supporters’ groups to enhance fan engagement and raise funds for the Community Trust.
