Everton is likely to argue against facing a second punishment for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules citing the principle of double jeopardy. The club’s 10 points deduction for Financial Fair Play violations from 2018-2022 was reduced to six points on appeal.

However, they now face a second charge for accounts from 2019-2023. Everton contends that they should not be penalized again for the same offense emphasizing improvements in their financial figures and compliance with EFL rules.

The appeal board acknowledged Everton’s progress but described their initial breach as “substantial,” justifying the need for a deduction to maintain fairness among Premier League clubs.
