Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has voiced concerns about perceived bias against his team from match officials particularly in light of their recent 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace. Wilder described the referee’s performance as “ridiculous” and plans to discuss the issue with Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
He expressed frustration over what he sees as a pattern of decisions going against Sheffield United suggesting that officials may be influenced by the belief that the Blades won’t remain in the Premier League for long. Wilder criticized a bad challenge on goalkeeper Ivo Grbic that went unpunished and noted an incident where one assistant referee was eating a sandwich during a discussion.
He emphasized that his concerns are shared by the club and its supporters calling for fair and consistent refereeing. Despite some favorable decisions in a recent match against West Ham, Wilder believes that overall Sheffield United has been on the receiving end of unfavorable calls. The team’s position at the bottom of the Premier League table adds to Wilder’s frustration as they are currently nine points away from safety.
